Does anyone have any ideas of things to keep the children amused over the summer holidays? Apart from jumping in puddles!

Depends on the ages I guess. I've just bought a pack of tennis balls from the pound shop. I've saved some empty cans (Non jagged edges of course) and when the grandchildren come around I'm going to stand them on the steps at different heights of the step ladders and get them to throw the tennis balls to knock them off. I've also bought some balloons to make water bombs. I've rounded the ends of some 6inch long 1/2 inch dowel to stick in the lawn and throw some old wooden curtain rings to hoop over the pegs. Did that for my kids and they loved it. http://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/4330/all

sounds like a fun fair - brilliant. As for jumping in puddles that can be great fun too. My children love it when I take them to our nearest town in their rain coats and wellies and let them splash around in the puddles.

My kids would love this next one - surely every childs dream? Not sure how practical it would be though... especially with no toilets... wonder if there are any nearby? The World's first ever sand hotel... a giant sandcastle!!!
