Following on from an earlier discussion in the new member forum, I thought I would start this one off! If you could live anywhere in England where would it be?

ooooh that is a tricky one! You did say anywhere so I'm going to imagine I can own several places in different parts of the country... hope that is not cheating?
I'd have a cottage in the Ashdown Forest where I'd spend the Christmas period... and I'd flit between the Northern Lake District and the Gloucestershire Cotswolds in the summer months. I might like to spend a bit time down in Bournemouth every now and then too!
If I had to stay in one place it would be the Lake District - somewhere around Keswick probably - very nice!

I would have to say the same thing chorth
I would own a house in London, a cottage in the cotswolds and another one by the sea. That way you could move around them as the seasons develop. Fingers crossed on the lottery

I think I would have to choose somewhere semi rural/rural with loads of lovely countryside. Perhaps Dorset or parts of Sussex. I also love the Lake District and parts of Yorkshire. Not too bothered about having a place in town - As long as I can get Topshop on the internet I am fine! Anyone else got any thoughts???

Of all the places I've been Derbyshire is the one that always comes first to mind. I love where I live in Lincolnshire, but I do miss the Derbyshire Dales and Hathersage, Castleton, Baslow, Bakewell, Chatsworth, Stoney Middleton and so on and so on. http://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/4330/all

I imagine somewhere like Grasmere or Keswick where I visited last year would be great but I have fantasised about living in Hathersage alot recently so I could walk Stanage edge and nearby area at sunset on warm summer evenings instead of having to always leave early to get home in time.

Hello Ildiko - welcome to the forum. Devon certainly is lovely. Most recently I went camping in Sidmouth but even this was a long time ago. I'd love to go back some day - there is some beautiful coastal walking that takes you from the cliff tops down into the town.

My first choice would be in one of those cottages that face the Seven Sisters in Sussex, my favorite view in England. A very close second would be any cottage in the Cotswolds, with of course a country pub within walking distance.

I have to agree with Englandmypassion - The Seven Sisters is absolutely beautiful isn't it! I have been going there since I was a child and it never loses its appeal. Seven Sisters

I would pick Devon too, I went to Uni down there, and one of my mates has just moved back down after 6 years in London. A house on the edge of Dartmoor would be great. ONly downside is you rely on the car a lot living rural - one day though...
If anyone's in the area, check out a little village called Trusham, its tiny, and there are just a few houses, a church and a gorgeous pub with a thatched roof. Oh, and a telephone box!!

I'd have a cottage in a rural seaside village (not one of the touristy ones!) with sea views and overlooking fields in Cornwall or on the Scilly Isles; a cottage by the shore of one of the lakes in the Lake District, with fell views; a small manor house with grounds&stables in Bucks (near the Thames between Marlow and Henley, so it would also have a mooring!); a mews house in London; a family home in West Sussex. Not asking for much really - will have to start buying lottery tickets...

I love the Scilly Isles too Bucks Girl. Isles of Scilly I haven't been for many years but I can still remember how beautiful it was. It is so hard to choose just one place so think I will be in the queue for the lottery tickets too! Though if the proprty prices continue to fall we might pick up 2 for the price of 1!
