Where is your favourite place in England? I come from the south east of England I have a really soft spot for Brighton with its quirky little shops in the North Laines. If you had to choose your favourite place in England where would it be?

that's a tricky one... its hard to say what my favourite place is. Can I say several places?
Bournemouth for a day out and then a few drinks with friends in the evening
The Lake District for a family holiday and an escape from the rat race
Sussex Downs and surrounding villages for the good old fashioned English quaint factor
..and best of all (I guess I do have a favourite then) Castle Combe - the prettiest village in England - apparently! I think I agree. I went there with two noisy kids and they rather spoilt the effect of it though - little brats! Does anyone want to buy two little kids (non-refundable of course)?

I'd have to say Haworth in Yorkshire, because it is a pretty little village with its steep setted main street(they are big cobbles!), some fantastic events, glorious yorkshire countryside and of course Haworth is the home to the Bronte's.

Hey yes... hi there Johnny - Haworth is pretty nice too - bit tireing walking up that hill though!!! I took my missus to Haworth for a romantic weekend for Valentine's once. I'm glad we stayed at the bottom of that hill!! Can't be doing with too much exertion being English and all...

 Hi my favourite place is Cowgill in Yorkshire Dales between Dent and Ingleton, peace and tranquility well away from rat race.Stayed in caravan on working farm with pud next door, heaven.

Hi Tina - welcome to the forum. Hope you find it useful. I don't believe I've posted in this thread myself yet! My favourite place in England is a spot on a secluded beach with fresh green grass and wild flowers growing behind it - complete with bees and birds - and a large expanse of white sand that edges down to a gentle clear blue shoreline. I haven't been anywhere like this in England - or indeed anywhere else - but have just seen a post in another thread (Coast and country / Summer or winter?)that makes Holkham look like a reasonable bet. Does anyone know of any other contenders?

I'm from the South East originally but now live in Buckingham, which is close to East Anglia borders.
My favourite part of the country is the Bideford / Barnstaple / Torridge part of North Devon.

A few years ago I wrote a little book (now in e-format) called IN SEARCH OF SAINT RUMWOLD. This involved visiting all the places I then knew of (found a couple more since) associated with him and his immediate family. They are all marvellous, for different reasons, connected simply by the apparently random association of churches named after him etcetera. Go, and make a tour out of it! Buckingham is most definitely on the list 1970Paul!

I've only been to the lake district once and would like to explore it far more.However I have been to the peak district many times now and it always makes me calm and happy.

Hi Kev747 welcome to the forum. The Peak district is very beautiful as are The Lakes. I always find the countryside has a calming effect on me - great for clearing your head!

The Lakes would definately be in my top three. Followed closely by the Yorkshire Dales and the Jurassic coast.

 As a Scotsman I would have to say, along with 100s of 1000s, that my Favourite Places are the streets of Manchester! To quote the Eminent cheese-maker Angus MacArone: 'Get outa Mae Way!!' As Ambassadors to Glasgow City of Culture you must appreciate the finesse with which we Scots deploy the Jack-boot and take our Orders, intoxicating, or Holy. The Manchester Police do not take their Orders! So the streets of Manchester are carpeted with them. We doo luke with envy upon these hallowed places, but never mind, Glasgow, our turn will come!
