Knaresborough

Knaresborough

Get a feel of yester-year with a guided tour of the medieval castle including the eerie dungeon and underground sallyport. Check out what everyday life was like in medieval times and find out more about Knaresborough through the ages.

Visit Old Mother Shipton’s Cave & Petrifying Well. This is the birthplace of the 15th century prophetess Mother Shipton who is one of Knaresborough’s most famous individuals. Make a wish in the wishing well and see the everyday objects that over time have been turned to stone in the petrifying well.

Meander through the sensory touch, sound, scent and intuition gardens at Henshaw’s Arts and Crafts Centre for the visually impaired. Stroll along the winding road next to the river, stopping in at the many places to eat and drink, walk to St. Roberts Cave, feed the ducks or take a boat out for a recreational row along the river. Knaresborough is a quintessential English market town full of character. Charming tearooms, inviting eateries, a busy Wednesday market and an abundance of attractive shops offer plenty of opportunity for you to buy the perfect reminder of your trip to this picture postcard town.
