Captain Cook Country

Captain Cook Country

Picture yourself strolling across the open moorland enjoying a lazy round of golf or exploring hidden antique shops and bookstores down narrow cobbled alleyways, with the call of the seagulls in the distance. Wherever you picture yourself, whatever your preferred form of relaxation – you can bet Captain Cook Country has it.

This land of contrasts stretches from the historic port of Whitby, with its ancient clifftop abbey, north along miles of unspoiled rugged coastline to the seaside resorts of Saltburn and Redcar and on to the Tees River and Cook’s birthplace at Marton in Middlesbrough. Inland across the dramatic North York Moors, Captain Cook Country takes in quiet market towns and peaceful villages leading back to Whitby along the valley of the River Esk. In honour of Britain’s greatest navigator and explorer, this is the land that now proudly bears his name.
