Yorkshire Pennines

Last of the summer wine

Pennine Yorkshire offers the perfect place for touring and exploring, easily accessible from Manchester and Leeds and bordered by the Peak District National park to the south. With superb scenery and landscapes, walking and cycling opportunities abound. You can rise to the challenge of the hills, meander around the wooded valleys or stroll along the towpaths of the canals and rivers. Few regions offer the richness of choice and the striking contrasts of Pennine Yorkshire.

Rich in industrial heritage, with mining and textile links, Pennine Yorkshire also has a variety of literary, TV and film connections. It was the home and inspiration of the Brontes, and Holmfirth is familiar as the location for the TV series, Last of the Summer Wine. Retail opportunities range from stylish mill shops along the Yorkshire Mill Mile to the markets of Barnsley and Huddersfield. Art and antique lovers will find hidden gems in the Holme Valley and at Elsecar Heritage Centre.

Music, theatre and other events help to create a vibrant scene across the region. Highlights include the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, the Marsden Jazz Festival and the annual Mela Festival.

There's something for everyone, so take a break in Pennine Yorkshire.
