Halifax
Architecture makes this town outstanding – Shibden Hall is a magnificent example of this, but Halifax also has a thriving cultural life.
There are many exciting galleries, including Dean Clough Art Galleries, which also feature the Henry Moore Studio; the Piece Hall Art Gallery; and a new Marble Gallery selling crafts at Bankfield Museum. There are also many private galleries in and around the town.
For theatregoers and music lovers there’s a real treat in store, with a wide range of productions and styles. The Victoria Theatre has a full programme of great acts, including top comedians, rock bands and classical music as well as drama.
Square Chapel Centre for the Arts also offers a wide range of drama and music, with special programmes for young people, and the Halifax Playhouse puts on some terrific productions by its own amateur drama company. There is also the Viaduct Theatre and two critically acclaimed theatre companies – Northern Broadsides and IOU Theatre – at Dean Clough.
For those who prefer a wilder nightlife, the club scene in Halifax is very lively with a good number of clubs and bars.
