Salisbury

Salisbury Cathedral

Nestling in the very heart of rural southern England, Salisbury is every bit the classic English city. Salisbury combines the charm of a medieval city with the vibrancy of modern life, where high street names and modern café culture intermingle with independent shops and traditional English pubs.

A visit to the cathedral is a must. Built between 1220 and 1258, the cathedral boasts the tallest spire in Britain, which rises elegantly above the sweeping lawns of the tranquil cathedral close. Within the close, you can enjoy award-winning museums and graceful period homes as you wander peacefully around the relaxed setting.

For the culturally minded, there’s the annual Salisbury International Arts Festival and entertainment is always on offer at the Salisbury playhouse, city hall and arts centre.

With five rivers running through the city and an expanse of tree-lined parkland, there are many opportunities to relax and unwind. With a diverse range of pubs and restaurants catering for all tastes and pockets there’s no excuse for going hungry!

A number of hotels and B&Bs will ensure a good night’s sleep should you wish to stay a little longer. You’ll then discover that Salisbury is unbeatable as a touring base.
