Nether Stowey
Nether Stowey is a picturesque village set at the foot of the Quantock Hills. The village itself is referred to in the Domesday book and has many surviving medieval buildings.
The Quantock countryside was an inspiration to the romantic poets Coleridge and Wordsworth who both lived in the area for a period of their lives. The cottage in Nether Stowey, where Coleridge lived when he composed many of his most famous works, is owned by the National Trust and is open to the public.
The Quantock hills are a magnet for walkers, horse-riders and nature lovers. Red deer and ponies graze amongst the bracken and birds of prey are often seen circling overhead. There are many delightful places to picnic and enjoy the views.
