Langport

Langport

This ancient market town is noted for its houses on Bow Street which lean gently backwards, possibly because the front had the benefit of the foundation of the Roman causeway.

The town has a distinctive 'hanging chapel' in the old town wall. Beyond the wall is the handsome parish church of adjacent Huish Episcopi with its magnificent Norman doorway.

The story of the town and river is told at the River Parrett Trail Visitor Centre. You can also hire a bike to explore  nearby villages such as Muchelney, with its abbey, tearooms and the famous pottery of John Leach.  Or join the 50 mile River Parrett Trail.

This peaceful town is also ideal for discovering the flora and fauna of the Somerset Levels, one of England's most unchanged landscapes.
