Cradled by the picturesque Cotswold Hills, the city of Gloucester has a vibrant, lively atmosphere that combines a rich historic past with all the excitement and attractions of a city just full of life and begging to be explored.
The magnificent Norman cathedral lies at the heart of the city and is a monument to the finest craftsmanship with its extraordinary fan-vaulted cloisters and glorious wood, stone and glass and was one of the locations in the movies ‘Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone’ and ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets’.
Next to the Cathedral you can visit the House of the Tailor of Gloucester, which is the actual shop that Beatrix Potter used as inspiration for the Tailor’s home in the famous story.
In the historic Gloucester Docks, 15 Victorian warehouses stand as proud guardians to Britain’s most inland port. Home to the National Waterways Museum, Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum, antiques centre and specialist shopping centre. Regular boat trips and guided walks run throughout the summer.
