Christchurch

Christchurch… where time is pleasant

A beautiful historic market town on the shores of Christchurch Harbour on the spectacular Dorset coast. Includes Highcliffe-on Sea and Mudeford, an attractive fishing village.

Christchurch is a beautiful Saxon market town, situated on the spectacular Dorset coast, close to lively Bournemouth and the tranquillity of the New Forest. Its Saxon charm and fascinating heritage, combined with beautiful floral displays make it an ideal location for a short break, day trip or as a base to discover the hidden treasures of rural Dorset and the New Forest.

Nestling in the shadow of the magnificent 900 year old Priory Church, the older part of the town is steeped in history and full of old world charm with beautiful river walks, traditional and exclusive shops and a good range of restaurants, cafes and public houses. In contrast, the bustling high street area, Saxon Square shopping centre and Bargates provide a variety of interesting shops as well as several of the larger chains of retail stores.

Christchurch is also renowned for its spectacular natural harbour, ideal for most water sports, and its six beautiful, unspoilt sandy beaches which span Christchurch bay.

The borough has five nature reserves and also information centres at Stanpit Marsh and Steamer Point with full information on the natural wildlife that can be found there and details of interesting conservation projects.
