Teignmouth
With an elegant crescent of Georgian buildings dating back to the early 1800's, Teignmouth is steeped in maritime history. An historic port; it's one of the country's top holiday resorts situated between stunning red sandstone cliffs.
You'll find Teignmouth has all the attractions of a seaside town - sandy beaches that stretch the length of the promenade, a Victorian pier, museum, a lido, interesting old backstreets, pedestrianised shopping areas, illuminated lighting and a mixture of parks and cliff walks. And you'll not need to venture far if you don't want to - as the lawns, flower beds, children's play areas, tennis courts and bowling green are all close to the beach.
The estuary side of the town is a lively place of fishing boats, beach huts, boats for hire, waterside inns, local passenger ferry and fishing trips - all with the wonderful backdrop of the village of Shaldon and the hills of Dartmoor in the distance.
For spectacular views, why not take a walk along the South West coastal path that meanders along the top of red sandstone cliffs down to the sea. Teignmouth also has a mainline station, so is ideal as a place to base yourself for touring the area.
