Shaldon

Shaldon

Across the estuary from Teignmouth, Shaldon is a real period piece and a truly unforgettable place of narrow streets and alleyways of thatched cottages and Georgian houses.

It is also a lively place, with boating and beach activities. Coupled with many attractions including a zoo, botanical garden, 18 hole golf course with fantastic sea views, inns, shops and cafes.

Throughout the summer the village holds popular events including regattas and the annual water carnival.  A '1785' craft fair on Wednesdays is populated by costumed characters from the period.

You can take a ride on what is reputed to be the oldest passenger ferryboat in the country that runs across the Teign Estuary to Teignmouth. ‘The Ness’, a picturesque cove can be accessed by a 'smugglers' tunnel. Alternatively, walk across the 1700 ft bridge over the River Teign that links Shaldon to Teignmouth.

Just up the coast is Labrador Bay where it’s possible to park up, enjoy the view, access the South West Coast Path and walk to Shaldon or in the other direction, towards Maidencombe.
