Newton Abbot Clock Tower

The historic town of Newton Abbot situated at the head of the Teign Estuary lies between the moors and the sea.

A bustling commercial centre and friendly market town, there has been a market in Newton Abbot since 1220. There are still various livestock, indoor and farmers' markets that are well worth a visit, offering a wide range of local produce.

The pedestrianised town centre offers an interesting blend of shops from high street names to specialised family owned businesses. Around the town there is plenty to do including various restaurants, cafés, a cinema/theatre, leisure centre, indoor bowls centre, ten-pin bowling, attractive gardens and parks.

The famous Newton Abbot Racecourse has steeplechase horse racing throughout the year and is also used as a venue for a range of other events. Other Newton Abbot attractions include: Tuckers Malting Visitor Centre -Britain's only working malthouse open to the public, The Prickly Ball Hedgehog Hospital, the National Trust property, Bradley Manor and the Great Western Railway Museum.

The notable landmark St Leonard's Tower can be found in the centre of the town - said to be unique in having a tower without a church.

With a mainline railway station and excellent access to the M5, English Riviera and Dartmoor, Newton Abbot is a good central base.
