Buckfastleigh

Buckfast Abbey

Buckfastleigh, on the edge of Dartmoor is an historic mill town. It is home to some of the South West's top visitor attractions a short walk from the town centre.

With an interesting array of shops, an open-air swimming pool and a weekly farmers’ market every Thursday morning,  Buckfastleigh is an ideal town to spend a whole day at.

Conveniently located just off the A38 it is home to a range of visitor attractions. These include Buckfast Abbey -  a  living Benedictine monastery, the South Devon Railway's steam operated branch line to Totnes, and the Butterfly Farm and Otter Sanctuary. Visitors in the summer can easily reach the town’s visitor attractions by hopping on and off the free  Buckfastleigh Vintage Bus.

One of the most unusual attractions is the place where time has stood still. The Valiant Soldier public house, now a museum, called last orders one night in 1965 and was then closed and locked up.
