St Agnes

Stippy Stappy, St Agnes

The charming village of St Agnes was once a busy mining village and still retains this character with its miners’ cottages and the remains of engine houses dotted in and around the village. Stippy Stappy, a steeply stepped row of cottages, has become a defining feature of St Agnes. This is a thriving community with many village shops, pubs, craft shops and galleries. Throughout the year St Agnes has a busy programme of events such as Bolster Day, celebrating the dastardly deeds of the local giant, and the West of England Steam Engine Rally.

Nestling in a sheltered valley near a spectacular stretch of coast, the South West Coast Path makes for great walks. There is also an extensive network of footpaths around St Agnes, making it a walkers’ paradise. Don’t miss a stroll up St Agnes Beacon, from where, on a clear day, it is said that you can see the spires of 27 churches!

St Agnes is close to some great beaches, Trevaunance Cove, Chapel Porth, Porthtowan and Trevellas Porth, all with their own character. The first three are suitable for swimming and surfing, and have lifeguard patrol throughout the summer.
