Rock
Rock could hardly be less appropriately named as its popularity is largely due to the long stretches of fine sandy beaches washed by the tidal waters of the Camel Estuary. Rightly acclaimed as one of the major watersports centres in Cornwall, sailing, windsurfing, water skiing and rowing are all activities which can be carried out in the relatively calm waters of the estuary.
Rock Sailing Club and Water Ski Club is situated on the quay at Rock. The river can be crossed to Padstow by the Black Tor ferry which runs all year round. Boats can be hired for both sailing and fishing near Ferry Point. Events for 2009; Junior Camel Week - Friday 31st July to Thursday 6th August 2009 and Camel Week – Saturday 15th August to Friday 21st August 2009.
The renowned St Enodoc Golf Club at Rock clings to the clifftops of the Estuary – seaside links at their finest with two challenging courses on offer. Scenic walks on the coastal footpath and inland make this area an ideal base for hikers etc.
Nearby, nestling in the dunes is St Enodoc Church where the late Poet Laureate Sir John Betjeman is buried.
