Looe
Welcome to the historic fishing port of Looe where two rivers create a tidal harbour, which separates the quiet rocky foreshores of West Looe and Hannafore from the busy waterfront, Banjo Pier and the sandy beach of East Looe.
Pilchards, copper and smuggling have all played their part in Looe’s continued prosperity. The bustling harbour is the hub of the town and home to over 60 commercial fishing vessels as well as pleasure and tripping boats. Almost daily, it is possible to watch the fish being landed and auctioned at the fish market on the quay. You can enjoy a cruise along the coast or experience deep sea fishing for shark (released and tagged for scientific purposes) or conger eel or maybe diving off wrecks.
Enjoy a stroll along the Banjo Pier or sit and watch the world go by in the many restaurants and cafés serving local produce, perhaps a tasty pasty or Cornish Cream tea. Unravel the past walking the narrow streets and visit the Old Guildhall Museum. East Looe’s beach is ideal for families and is cleaned daily. A walk along the South West Coast Path or a visit to the Discovery Centre will help you to make the most of your stay giving you ideas of things to see and do. A trip on the Looe Valley Line to Liskeard is a must.
