Medway
Relax and enjoy the inspiring cathedral city of Rochester and the fascination maritime area of Chatham.
Retreat and let down your defences in the fantastic surroundings of the ancient city of Rochester, home to England’s second oldest cathedral standing proudly next to its inseparable twin Rochester Castle.
Not only does Rochester contain a variety of antique and speciality shops, restaurants and tea rooms, but also has a wealth of buildings of great architectural and historic interest. These include the impressive 17th century Guildhall Museum with its excellent museum, Restoration House, an imposing red brick mansion beautifully restored to its original splendour. The novelist Charles Dickens lived in the area and included the city in his works.
Chatham is home to The Historic Dockyard, one of the world’s most important and fascinating maritime locations and a prospective World Heritage Site along with its defences of the Napoleonic Fort Amherst and Upnor Castle. The Royal Engineers Museum with exhibits of national and international importance, and ‘Kingswear Castle’ the last coal-fired paddle steamer remaining in service in Britain.
No trip to Medway will be complete without a visit to our superb collection of heritage attractions and of course, step back in time on a Dickensian experience at Dickens World visitor complex at Chatham Maritime.
