Petersfield
The ancient market town of Petersfield, situated in the South Downs and in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is an excellent centre for exploring the surrounding countryside.
Originally built as a Norman ‘new town’ at the end of the 11th Century, it is now a vibrant place for shopping and eating out. The main square, in which stands the magnificent equestrian statue of King William III, hosts the twice weekly markets on Saturdays and Wednesdays.
Galleries, museums and musical and arts events reflect the strong artistic and cultural life of the town.
Long distance footpaths, numerous rights of way and riding/cycle trails allow you to explore the wonderful countryside. Further afield there are a variety of places to visit, and whether your interest is in gardens, country parks, historic buildings, literature and the arts or fine food and drink, there will be something for you.
Good transport links mean that Petersfield is easily accessible, with London and the historic cities of Portsmouth, Chichester and Winchester within easy reach.
