Ponteland
Pronounced ‘Pon-tee-land’, Ponteland is a historic town built around the bridge over the River Pont, crossed by the main A696 Newcastle to Otterburn road. The town has substantially increased in size since the 1960s with the creation of the large executive housing estate of Darras Hall, which is upon Tyne, the nearby Newcastle Airport and elsewhere on Tyneside. Three miles outside the town is Kirkley Hall College where the gardens are a popular local attraction.
