Newton-by-the-Sea

Newton-by-the-Sea

This charming village, much of which is owned by the National Trust, is very popular for sailing and windsurfing due to its lovely sandy beach in the sheltered bay and its fine views across Embleton Bay to Dunstanburgh Castle. The area is also renowned for its good birdwatching. The Ship Inn situated in the village square is an excellent, friendly pub that serves bar meals and hot soups for those walking on wild days. Parking is at the top of the hill before the descent into the village. The square is the heart of the old village, comprising a large grass area with a pub in the corner and the beach wall with steps down to the beach. The nearest shops are at Embleton or Beadnell.
