Longhorsley
Longhorsley, on the A697, is essentially a dormitory community for South Northumberland and Tyneside. A battlemented tower here is thought to date from the 16th century. Three miles north westward at Brinkburn, on the River Coquet, a beautiful Augustinian Priory, restored in the 19th century, stands in idyllic surroundings. In the village shop, Thomas Bell developed the world's first self-raising flour. He called it Bell's Royal; it is now known as Be-Ro. Suffragette Emily Davison also lived in the village.
