Kirkwhelpington

A small village set in hilly countryside near the River Wansbeck; it sits just off the main A696 Newcastle–Otterburn–Scotland road. Nearby Kirkharle is famous for being the birthplace of celebrated landscape gardener Capability Brown, who is now commemorated in a small museum and visitor centre nearby. The church has been much altered since the 13th century. A moorland area of rivers and small loughs or reservoirs stretches southward.
