Greenhead

Greenhead church

Greenhead sits in the valley of the Tipalt Burn in the shadow of the Walltown Crags section of Hadrian's Wall. It is a convenient stopping-off point for access to the Wall, being on the route of the Hadrian's Wall bus and close to buses on the main Newcastle–Carlisle route. The Roman Army Museum is half a mile’s walk from the village centre. Greenhead is a hamlet rather than a village, but still manages to offer the visitor a full range of facilities, from food to a variety of accommodation, including a campsite and youth hostel, which is popular with Wall walkers. Nearby are the ruins of Thirlwall Castle, built in the 14th century from Roman stone.
