Falstone
Falstone stands in the shadow of the massive dam that holds back Kielder Water, and a large part of Europe's largest man-made lake lies in Falstone parish. Not much remains of the village's days of Border Reiving. One particular story relating to an infamous sheep-stealing raid in the area can be heard in Hexham's old gaol museum. The first trees in what is now Kielder Forest Park were planted at Falstone in the 1920s. Today Falstone serves as a reminder of how the North Tyne Valley was before the arrival of the dam and forest, and indeed how it provided a home for many who were forced to move when the valley was flooded.
