River Wear at Westgate in Weardale

This village marked the western entrance to Stanhope Park, the Prince Bishops’ deer park. The area is renowned for its wildlife and Slitt Wood, now a site of special scientific interest, is the location for pleasant walks, waterfalls and the remains of old lead mines.
