Shotley Bridge

Shotley Bridge, a village near Consett, was once the heart of Britain’s sword-making industry. Sword-makers from Germany settled in Shotley after leaving their homeland. Shotley was probably chosen because of its rich iron deposits and the fast-flowing waters of the River Derwent.
