Lanchester
Situated on the A691 eight miles from Durham and 12 miles from Newcastle, Lanchester Village is the site of the fort Longovicium, meaning the 'long settlement'. In the village signs remain of a Vicus as well as a Roman Fort, which was once built around Hadrian’s Wall in AD122.
