Hamsterley Forest
This beautiful forest lies between Teesdale and Weardale on the edge of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Covering some 2,000 hectares, the forest has an abundance of wildlife and plenty for people to enjoy. The Forest Visitor Centre and shop is a good place to start your visit, to learn more about the management of the forest and perhaps take home a souvenir. The forest drive runs beside the Bedburn Beck for four miles through the heart of the forest. It links many of the waymarked trails and grassy picnic sites along the way. Every summer the forest stages a wide range of events and activities, from wildlife watches to tours of forest operations and theatre performances.
