Frosterley

Bollyhope Common near Frosterley

With its name possibly derived from 'Forest Lea', Frosterley has a current population of approximately 800, and is an old dales quarrying village of Saxon origin. The ancient chapel of St Botolph dates back to the 14th century and is a registered ancient monument. The village is renowned for its Frosterley marble, some of which was used in the Chapel of Nine Altars in Durham Cathedral.
