Ebchester
Accessible from the A694 and from the Derwent Walk, Ebchester was the first area in the district to produce iron. The place where the Roman road, Dere Street, once crossed the River Derwent, Ebchester was the site of a Roman fort called Vindomara, remains of which can still be seen today.
