Cotherstone
The village is famous for its beautiful river walks along the banks of the Tees and Balder Rivers. The site of a 13th-century castle is to be found at Hagg Bank, which is well worth the walk. Still standing is the 17th-century Quaker Meeting House, which the Quaker founder, George Fox, visited in 1653. John Wesley preached in the village and the present Methodist Chapel was built in 1782. Cotherstone cheese is a locally made delicacy that you can sample in the local pubs.
