Kirkby

civil war re-enactment

A chapel is believed to have existed in this area since 870 AD. The name translates from the Old Scandinavian to mean 'village with a church' and was known in the Domesday Book as 'Cherchbi'. Kirby grew to its present size in 1961, following development as a new town. Kirkby is within a stone’s throw of Knowsley Safari Park and Prescot Museum of Clock and Watchmaking.
