Halton

Famous as the birthplace of Lewis Carroll, author of Alice in Wonderland, Halton is also home to the wonderful Daresbury Village and the 800 year old home of Augustinian Canons at Norton Priory. Another key attraction is the remains of  Halton Castle, which stand on a prominent rocky hill overlooking the River Mersey. Built in 1071, its location was chosen for its elevated position and potential as an observation post, it was also an easily defensible site.
