Merseyside
Merseyside, in the Northwest of England, features the boroughs of Liverpool, Halton, Knowsley, Sefton, St Helens and Wirral, as well the River Mersey. Most famous as a port town and the birthplace of The Beatles, the region has many claims to fame, so many in fact, that it actually appears in the Guinness Book of World Records as the place with the most records. Whether it’s football at Liverpool or Everton, horseracing at Haydock or Aintree, or retracing the rock ‘n’ roll steps or the Fab Four, Merseyside genuinely does have something fore everyone. You can take in golf at some of Europe’s best courses in Wirral or Southport, the 800-year-old Norton Priory in Halton, the UK’s National Wildflower Centre in Knowsley or top-class rugby league at St Helens. Liverpool is the beating heart of Merseyside, and the European Capital of Culture is cementing its position as one of the best city breaks in the UK.
