Bury, East Lancashire Steam Railway

Birthplace of Sir Robert Peel, Prime Minister and founder of the police force, commemorated by statue in market place. The East Lancashire Railway operates from Bury and items connected with steam railways are found at the Transport Museum. Bury is famous for its black puddings, huge open market and East Lancashire Steam Railway. Bury Art Gallery has an important collection of Turner and Constable paintings. Bury is approximately 192 miles (309km) from London and has a population of 69,000.
