It was also here, in 1617, that the sirloin steak came into being, when King James I famously knighted a loin of beef. 

Extending across the valley of the lower Ribble, South Ribble has a delightfully open landscape, rich in history, which offers something for everyone to enjoy, whether you're interested in nature, the arts, history or recreation.   Attractions include Samlesbury Hall, an ancient Manor House, which has extensive displays of antiques and collectors items, Europe’s largest British Commercial Vehicle Museum, and Longton Brickcroft Nature Reserve, to name but a few.
