Maryport

Maryport

Maryport is a very pleasant town to discover on foot – built on a grid pattern in the 18th century, it is very easy to find your way around. Start at the harbour, recently refurbished to a high standard, where pleasure craft are berthed. Take time to wander and enjoy the special seaward views then find out about the fauna in the sea, in a lively and informative way, at the Aquarium. Also by the harbour is the Maritime Museum, where you can discover the town’s strong links to the tragic Titanic. On the north side of the harbour can be found more of Maryport's rich heritage – the Senhouse Roman Museum with its exceptionally well preserved collection of Roman sculptures.

Retrace your steps to picturesque, cobbled Fleming Square and nearby Senhouse Street which has a host of local and specialist shops for browsing. Try and visit when the town’s maritime festival is in full swing to get the full flavour of Maryport.
