Ennerdale
Ennerdale is unique in the Lake District in that it is car-free for most of the length of the valley. Leave the pretty village of Ennerdale Bridge, which has pubs, accommodation and a village store, and follow the road to car parking at the end of the lake. From here it is all on foot (or cycle) with two Lakeland giants – Great Gable and Pillar – at the heart of the valley. A circular walk around the lake gives you a fine introduction to the delights of Ennerdale and most of the walk is fairly flat on good tracks. Heavily forested, the valley also has an excellent range of waymarked tracks in the forest.
