Neston and Parkgate

Parkgate

Neston and Parkgate are largely residential in character. Bordering on the River Dee, salt marshes are feeding places for duck, wild geese and sea birds and popular with naturalists. Parkgate was once a busy port though now its promenade only sees high tide on a handful of occasions in the year. Parkgate was the scene of Handel’s departure for the great performance of ‘Messiah’ in Dublin in 1741.

There are spectacular views across the Dee Estuary to the hills of North Wales and the Hilbre Island bird sanctuary, particularly from Ness Gardens, internationally-renowned botanic gardens. There are fine detached Georgian houses in Parkgate Road, Neston.
