Wells next the sea

Wells next the sea

Not quite on the sea, but sitting on an estuary, Wells has narrow streets lined with traditional flint buildings. While on the green (The Buttlands) is a series of Georgian houses. A little railway takes visitors from the port to the nearby sandy beach.

Wells-next-the-Sea has a beach fringed with pine trees and provides a beautiful walk round to the flat expanse of sand that is Holkham Bay - this is the beach that Gwyeneth Paltrow appeared on in the last scene of the film Shakesphere in Love. The beach of Wells is situated a half-mile from the port and town and can be approached by car, on foot or by the small railway that runs from the town to the beach. The town has a mixture of quayside work and holiday bustle, but the area around the green still provides a wonderful Georgian elegance.
