Norfolk
Start in the fine city of Norwich, with its historic buildings, cathedral, castle, great shopping and lively arts/cultural scene. North east is Britain´s biggest protected wetland ´The Broads´. Explore reed-fringed waterways, windmills and nature reserves.
The coastline (an area of outstanding natural beauty) comprises unspoilt beaches, saltmarshes, cliffs, flint villages and nature reserves. Clifftop Cromer is noted for its pier and crabs, whilst at Sheringham, ride on a steam train to the antiques centre of Holt. Visit the port of Wells-next-the-Sea, the pilgrimage centre of Little Walsingham and The Burnhams - Lord Nelson´s birthplace. Just inland are the traditional market towns of Aylsham, East Dereham, Fakenham and Wymondham. For seaside fun, head to the sandy beaches, colourful gardens and family entertainment at Hunstanton and Great Yarmouth.
Discover maritime heritage at King´s Lynn, a port and market town dating back to the 12th C. Close by is Royal Sandringham, and the home of Norfolk Lavender. Head south to visit the unique Fens, with its nature reserves and historic churches.
Breckland is a unique landscape of farmland, heath and Britain’s largest lowland pine forest - alongside the towns of Swaffham, Thetford and Watton. To the east of the county is Diss with its mere. Visit Bressingham´s famous gardens, and Banham Zoo´s rare species.
