Royston

Royston, Hertfordshire

Royston is a busy market town, which grew up around a cross erected by Lady Roisia (around 1066). This marked the intersection of the ancient Icknield Way and Roman Ermine Street.  In the 17th century Royston became a hunting base for James I. There are several historic buildings, award-winning gardens and an unusual man-made cave, with medieval carvings. A market is held on Wednesday and Saturday.
