Hitchin
Hitchin is an ancient market town dating back to Saxon times. A former Royal Manor, Hitchin prospered from the wool trade and retains its medieval plan with narrow streets and lanes. The large market square is surrounded by Tudor and Georgian buildings and overlooked by the largest parish church in the county. Close by is Hitchin Priory, an 18th century mansion. A market is held on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.
