Halstead
Halstead is a lively and picturesque town situated just seven miles north of Braintree. Referred to as ‘Lovejoy country’ after a popular BBC antique series Halstead offers many opportunities to pick up a bargain. Most notably the still active Townsford Mil, a grand three storey white wooden building, straddles the River Colne and houses an antique centre and restaurant.
The Halstead Information and Heritage Centre now occupy the mill house next door and are good sources of information.
