Brentwood

The town grew up around a forest clearing during the late 12th century and was a convenient stopping place for pilgrims travelling from East Anglia and the Midlands to Canterbury. During the 18th century it developed into a coaching centre with some good inns. Surrounding the town are rural areas of countryside and parkland, offering an excellent centre for walking.
