Whittlesey

Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire

A small Fenland town, with fine examples of 17th and 18th century houses and a butter cross. St. Mary´s Church is noted for its beautiful mid 15th century spire.  The local hero, Sir Harry Smith, one of Wellington´s generals, is commemorated by the South Chapel in the church. The town is famous for its annual ´Straw Bear Festival´ (held each January).
