Spalding
Spalding, in the peaceful South Lincolnshire Fens, with acres of sky and sunsets, is a town that has to be seen to be believed!
Georgian terraces front the tree-lined River Welland which runs through the centre of the town.
Overlooking the river stands Ayscoughfee Hall and Gardens, which were given to the people of Spalding. The beautiful late-medieval Hall once belonged to a wool merchant. Today it houses a museum depicting life in the area over the centuries.
Spring is flower frenzy time around the bulb fields, originally Tulips, now Daffodils, growing in the rich soils reclaimed from the marshlands.
The town comes alive for the famous Spalding Flower Festival each May. When thousands visit to see bucketfuls of colourful spring flower heads decorating the procession of carnival floats, as they make their way through the streets and along the riverbank. Bands, colour, excitement, a great atmosphere the whole weekend!
Spalding's vibrant Town Centre boasts a superb selection of shops, supermarkets, department stores, butchers, greengrocers, bakers and an award winning bookshop to name but a few. The twice-weekly market sells everything from fresh produce to household goods, flowers and clothing.
